Jannie Heegaard
I have been seakayaking for 18 years and have been working as a seakayak coach since 2004.
I prefer seakayaking and open canoeing, and have been flirting with freestyle canoing as well - if you don’t know what it is please google it :-)
I’m a Danish level 3 coach, a BCU 4 star and have a Norwegian open canoe coach degree in riverpadling and work with instructor levels 1 – 3, and EPP 1-3.
I was the first female level 3 coach in Denmark and 8 years ago I started a women’s symposium in Denmark, and have been involved with the Artic Womens Playground Symposium, a women’s symposium in Northern Norway, for the last four years as well.
I mostly coach in Denmark and Norway and work both as an assessor, coach and trainer.
During the past 10 years I have been working freelance for the Danish Canoe Federation and have been involved in a lot of other educational projects, organizing symposiums and have closely involved in implementing the EPP system in Denmark and developing the new coach system.
My educational background is in sports science, outdoor activities and a masterdegree in general education. I currently work as a counselor for vulnerable youth and also teach both yoga and pilates.
I love my greenland paddles, love greenland rolling and have held a great number of rolling sessions.
I also love to make funny, creative workshops focused on good solid paddling technique and paddling with less power and paddling more efficiently.
In recent years I have been working with ex. kayakballet, inspiring people to dance with their kayak – inspired by freestyle canoeing – that claims to make lazy perfectionists out of everybody. In relation to this I like to make people do really funny paddling strokes in order to make their brains go crazy and to make them laugh a lot – and hopefully learn new things about themselves and their own personal Body-Boat-Blade (Stick).
I also work with the mental side of paddling especially with female paddlers and I’m currently working on a ‘yoga with a stick’ workshop… simply because I love yoga… and love my greenland paddle.
Last year I’ve become very interested in traditional kayakbuilding and so far I have build a southgreenland qajaq and iqyax, both with Anders Thygesen, Kajakkspesialisten Norway, and I hope to build a rollingqajaq during this winter as well. Skills in this takes so many years to get, so I feel enormously humble to the work Anders and other builders does and all the inuit people who have lived and hunted in Qajaqs like this so many years ago.
